Why Forge starts as a Rails monolith
Forge began as a Rails 8 monolith with Hotwire, not a separate API and SPA. That was on purpose.
The reasons
- One app, one deploy, one place for the domain rules while they are still changing.
- Hotwire gives enough interactivity without a second codebase.
- Session cookies on the same origin are simpler than tokens.
The plan for later
When the domain settles, a React + TypeScript UI can move in through a versioned API, while the Rails side keeps the model and the old UI runs until the new one is at parity.
